My Recipe File: 5 Satisfying Seed Snacks
Food is a beautiful thing. Now, as important as it is for your food to be healthy, it’s got to taste great first. These 5 recipes have got both those criteria covered. They taste great and each one is loaded with a special small ingredient that has BIG health benefits — seeds.
Seeds are paramount for proper nutrition. They’re ESSENTIAL to a well-balanced diet. Seeds hold all of the nutritional plant power you need. They’re nutrition’s infancy and an amazing health ingredient.
My 5 favorite & MOST HEALTHY seeds are…
- pumpkin
- sesame
- coriander
- sunflower
- flax
I try to incorporate these seeds into everything I eat.
Here are a few ways I’ve been doing that lately:
This one’s a no brainer. There is no better way to eat pumpkin seeds.
- Spice them.
- Roast them.
It’s that simple.
Okay, this one’s not so obvious. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t LOVE ice cream (who doesn’t?). That’s why I’m always looking for clever ways to still enjoy my favorite sweets.
Try this ice cream out.
It’s got an incredible flavor and a very satisfying texture.
Now coriander seeds can be a bit difficult to incorporate whole. What I like to do is grind them up into a tasty coriander powder and use them as a spice. They add that special flair to every dish. Especially these potato samosas.
Dig in!
Sunflower Seed Pesto
This is the PERFECT pesto! Now be warned: It’s a little thick. This pesto is part sauce, part spread. Either way, it’s incredibly delicious.
Granola is a great way to get a boost of nutrition in the morning. In this recipe we find our hero (flax seeds) ground up and mixed into a tasty blend of cinnamon and granola goodness.
BONUS:
I’ll leave this one as a surprise, but it incorporates 3 of my favorite seeds into one tasty RAW dish.
Now as much as I love these recipes, it’s still hard to find a way to incorporate one of these 5 seeds into every meal I eat.
- Call it busyness
- Call it lazyness
- Call it… excuses
Call it whatever you want. The fact is that it’s hard to always get the nutrition you NEED in a meal (seeds play a BIG role in proper nutrition). Even if you somehow manage to always eat the right stuff, you aren’t necessarily getting the nutrients you need.
Food Doesn’t Cut It.
Every year, our food absorbs fewer and fewer nutrients from the soil. Industrial farming practices have destroyed the nutritional value of our land and it’s only getting worse.
