The Top 5 Benefits of Colloidal Silver

When you think of silver, you probably think of jewelry, an old coin or fine silverware. You probably don’t usually think of its antibacterial properties, am I right?

Silver has interested us for thousands of years. From folklore and fantasy to practical use throughout history, people have found silver to be a fascinating element.

Historically, many ancient civilizations put water or milk into silver pitchers, stored liquids in silver containers for travel or put silver dollars in milk to prevent spoilage.

According to Silver Colloids, silver leaf was actually used during World War I to prevent infection and heal troops’ wounds. As early as the 1800s silver compounds were being created and used medicinally as germ and bacteria fighters. Colloidal silver liquids first started making an appearance in the early 20th century.

These practices led more modern investigations into the potential antimicrobial properties of this precious metal.

Using silver medicinally in more recent practices is both contested and celebrated by a variety of different sources.

There are many kinds of liquid silver supplements, many of which claim to be colloidal (sometimes falsely). For more on the differences between colloidal silver and ionic silver — the most common type of silver supplement today — check out our recent post.

Many silver supplement users swear by the antibacterial benefits.

Of course, it’s important to do your research before ingesting any silver. If you do make the decision to move forward with using silver in your natural health practice, make sure you choose a colloidal silver. There are good reasons for this — learn more, here.

So, what are the top benefits our Panasilver has for better health? We’ve gathered up the top five ways of using silver that colloidal silver fans have shared with us from their experiences.

1. Helps heal cuts and scrapes

Just as troops in World War I used silver to disinfect and heal their wounds, many people in modern day society use silver to treat cuts and scrapes at home.

According to Medscape, “Silver has proven antimicrobial activity that includes antibiotic-resistant bacteria, such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE). Its role as an antimicrobial agent is particularly attractive, as it has a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity with minimal toxicity toward mammalian cells at low concentrations and has a less likely tendency than antibiotics to induce resistance due to its activity at multiple bacterial target sites. Topical creams or solutions containing silver (eg, silver sulfadiazine) have long been used as a mainstay of wound management in burn patients who are especially susceptible to infection.”

When used topically to heal cuts, scrapes and other wounds, sometimes silver is added to a bandage or wrap to go overtop of the injury. You can buy bandages and wraps that come with silver in them or you can make your own with a good quality colloidal silver, like Panasilver.

2. Take it when you have a cold or the flu

A study done by the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at San Giovanni Addolorata Hospital took 100 children under the age of 12 who were suffering from a cold or nasal congestion and split them into two groups. The first group was treated with colloidal silver and beta glucan. The second group was treated with saline solution.

Both groups saw an improvement. The group treated with colloidal silver had 90% of the subjects recover completely with 10% having further complications, compared to the group treated with saline solution who only saw 66% of its subjects recover completely with 34% of subjects experiencing complications.

An article published in Healthy Living Magazine says that silver’s “highly dynamic particles interact with encapsulated viruses and bacteria to reduce the severity and the duration of the symptoms by passing through bacterial membranes and viral coats disrupting DNA synthesis and viral replication.”

Not only does it kill the cold quickly, but it can also prevent future illness, too.

3. Take it to prevent getting sick in the future

According to The Daily Health , colloidal silver can be a great defense against viruses waiting to get into your system.

Evolving Wellness says, “Silver contains antimicrobial properties, which give bacteria, viruses, and fungi an unfavorable environment in which to live.”

This means that those pesky bugs won’t be able to thrive in your body, making your sickness potentially shorter or perhaps unable to settle in to begin with.

As Needs.com points out, “some experts consider colloidal silver one of our most effective defenses against emerging strains of pathogens, because of its effectiveness against bacterial, viral, and fungal infections.”

4. Use it for ear and eye infections

There are plenty of people who swear by colloidal silver to work wonders for eye and ear infections.

Blogger Mommypotamus suggests using silver to help get rid of eye infections, like pink eye. Natural Living Ideas make the same suggestion.

According to M.D. Ray Sahelian, he has “come across several people who swear that colloidal silver — when used as eye drops 1-2 drops 3 to 4 times a day– quickly healed their conjunctivitis or sty, or reduced the severity of pharyngitis when gargled in water. Perhaps colloidal silver is effective against viruses and some bacteria. So, considering all factors, if I were to make a decision, I would say colloidal silver is worth a try for a few days in cases of conjunctivitis or sty or perhaps other mild infections, but it should not be used for longer than one week at a time. Its use should be done under medical supervision by a healthcare provider who is familiar with its properties.”

The Healthy Home Economist suggests colloidal silver for a number of ear irritations, too.

“My youngest child recently suffered from swimmers ear to the point where the infection even caused her to spike a fever. Just a few drops of colloidal silver in her ear almost completely resolved the infection overnight. I used a second dose the following morning to ensure complete recovery by the end of the following day. Make sure to use no more than 3 drops of colloidal silver in the ear canal when using as a swimmers ear home remedy no more than once or twice a day,” she writes in her blog. “Unlike antibiotics which only work on bacterial infections, colloidal silver is a broad spectrum antimicrobial. This means that it works against viruses and fungus too, not just bacteria.”

While many users have had positive experiences using colloidal silver for infections, we would always recommend seeking a professional opinion before doing so.

5. Use it to disinfect kitchen utensils

If you often cook with meats in the kitchen, your cutting board and knives have probably at some point come in contact with raw meat. Washing those utensils with soap and hot water can be okay for awhile, but eventually, bacteria can get trapped in the tiny crevices of your cutting board.

It’s important to disinfect these kitchen items, but it’s also important to use a disinfectant that’s safe to ingest. Just like meat leaving behind bacteria, your disinfectant can leave behind residue, too.

According to The Health Factory, colloidal silver won’t cause skin, eye or internal irritation like many other cleaning supplies will.

Ann Accetta-Scott on her blog A Farm Girl In The Making, shares that she often deep cleans and disinfects household items with colloidal silver.

“Since CS is known to contain antiseptic, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral qualities it’s the prime choice for a natural cleaning solution…” She goes on to say that “silver is used to control the growth of bacteria and fungus while also minimizing food spoilage.  CS can also kill and prevent the growth of algae, and when added to dish of bacteria, fungal or viral cells, the cells die quickly, which is why this makes an ideal cleaning item for the home.”

Ann also writes that some of the household items she uses colloidal silver to clean include cutting boards and kitchen counters, to prevent E. coli and salmonella.

Cleaning utensils and cutting boards that come in contact with meat is a great way to avoid any cross contamination.

Where can I get some?

It’s important when moving forward with an ingestible silver that you do careful research. One of the most important points to note is that you want to make sure what you’re taking is a colloidal silver rather than an ionic silver or ionic silver bound to protein. To learn about the differences, read this post.

Panasilver is a colloidal silver product that is totally safe to ingest and won’t turn your skin blue (yes, that is an actual concern with ionic silver solutions!). A little of the product goes a long way in terms of your body absorbing its benefits. The advanced technology that has gone into creating Panasilver allows your body to benefit from the silver nanoparticles within two hours and excrete them within 24.

Silver products are certainly not all created equal.

If you want only the safest, most effective silver supplement on the market for your family, you want Panasilver.
